Modifications

The following summarizes modifications from the previous version of this document.

• Polish the wording throughout.
• Add an introduction to the history of the encoding and a phonemic analysis of the written languages.
• Rename the Ali Gali letters ·H, ·M, ·T to ·X.
• Remove the transliterations of single-letter written units and phonetic letters. Add bowed written unit to all letter class tables. Rename “Lookups” to “Mapping type” in all Mongolian-specific phase tables. Update the onset and devsger logic for n, t, d; rename devsger in “4. Devsger” to vowel_devsger; and split post_bowed/post_bowed_feminine and feminine/feminine_marked to trigger distinct shaping rules per consonant class. Add particle mapping tables for Hudum, Todo, Sibe and Manchu.
• Account for the Unicode Standard documents that cite this UTN and what their citations ask of it.
• Expand the toolchain section into a full chapter on using and maintaining this repository.
• Add a chapter on other letters, digits, and punctuation.
• Add a chapter on the unified writing system, gathering the written units and the characters of the supported writing systems into one table each.
• For Hudum,
  • Remove Zr.medi; the word mozrik2an becomes mohhik2an.
  • Note W in letters ee and w.
  • Remove the EAC note: shaping is now required by GB 25914—2023 alone.
• For Todo,
  • Merge the written unit I3 into Ip: move I.fina to Ip.fina, likewise the final ligated variant of Ip. The fabricated Ip.fina and i.fina.1 are removed (contextual in the ligature).
  • Remove the unattested N.fina, Gp.fina, oe.medi.1, oe.fina.1, the written unit Y, O.medi and U.fina.
  • Add Zz2 (of zr), as required by the Chinese national standard.
  • Assign FVS2 to medial N2 of n and add n.isol.2; update the related note.
  • Remove the note on ny and its reference: the form is attested in Todo literature only inside a Sanskrit word.
  • Treat lvs as a vowel.
  • Add the missing “2. Syllabic”.
• For Sibe,
  • Add Ni.medi (in e).
  • Use M3 for M.fina.
  • Remove the unattested G.fina, written unit Gx (of k), Ch.fina, Cc.fina and W.fina (of w).
  • Remove Zs.fina, analyzed as Zs2.medi followed by I.fina; add Zs2 (of z), moving the initial and medial ligated variants of Zs to Zs2; assign FVS1 to Zs2 and FVS2 to Zs in z; update the related note. The Sibe Zs + I ligature has no Manchu counterpart, so it is a distinct written unit rather than a system-specific ligature judgment.
  • Shift i.medi.2→i.medi.1 and i.medi.3→i.medi.2; move i.fina.3 to i.fina (default); delete i.fina.1 (contextual in the ligature) and i.fina.2 (analyzed as sbm.medi (default) followed by i.fina (default)); remove the related note.
  • Swap t.isol (default)↔t.isol.1, t.init.1↔t.init.2 and t.medi.1↔t.medi.3.
  • Move the marked mapping of z to i; update the onset and devsger logic for k, g, h.
• For Manchu,
  • Add Ni.medi (in e).
  • Use Hx2 (of k) for Hx.fina.
  • Use M3 for M.fina.
  • Remove Zs.fina, analyzed as Zs.medi followed by Iy.fina; remove the unattested Ch.fina, Cc.fina, J.fina, Jc.fina and W.fina.
  • Shift i.medi.2→i.medi.1 and add i.medi.2; move i.fina.2→i.fina.1 and i.fina.3→i.fina.2; remove i.fina.1 (contextual in the ligature) and i.fina.4 (analyzed as sbm.medi (default) followed by i.fina.2); remove the related note.
  • Swap t.isol (default)↔t.isol.1, t.init.1↔t.init.2 and t.medi.1↔t.medi.3.
• For Hudum Ali Gali,
  • Move A2.fina into the final ligated variant of A (contextual in the ligature); remove the phonetic letter aX and the related note.
  • Remove the unattested Pg.fina, Rh.fina and Wp.init.
  • Rename the letter h to hh.
  • Move hX.medi.1 to hh.medi (default).
  • Remove the mapping type post_wa (part of the ligature).
• For Todo Ali Gali,
  • Remove Hp.init, which is actually N.init.
  • Rename the written unit Zc to Zz2 and the letter jX to Zr.
  • Rename the letter phX to p.
  • Remove Ip.fina and i.fina.1 (contextual in the ligature).
  • Move hh.medi.1 to hX.medi (default).
  • Treat lvs as a vowel.
  • Remove post_bowed for a (now via FVS).
• For Manchu Ali Gali,
  • Rename the written units Al→Aw and Ds→Dw.
  • Use Hx2 (of k) for Hx.fina.
  • Use M3 for M.fina.
  • Remove the unattested Jq.fina, Jh.fina, Cc.fina, Sc.fina, St.fina, St2.fina and Sx.fina.
  • Add Dt.init.
  • Remove the written unit Pb2 as an erroneous unit.
  • Shift i.medi.2→i.medi.1 and add i.medi.2; move i.fina.2→i.fina.1 and i.fina.3→i.fina.2; remove i.fina.1 and i.fina.4.
  • Assign FVS2 to medial Hy of ghX.
  • Swap t.isol (default)↔t.isol.1, t.init.1↔t.init.2 and t.medi.1↔t.medi.3.
  • Add Nx for n and Wd, Wc for bhX (Transitional Manchu).
  • Remove devsger for s (now via FVS).
